Claritas Limited are a family owned company that commenced trading in 1946. They have had premises in Harrow and now, Greenwich, from where they supply wholesale to the trade. All goods are dispatched via Royal Mail/Parcel Force by the experienced packing department. They also have superb technical knowledge of the trade. The Claritas team only sold to the trade because they could not adequately deal with the telephone queries nor the personal visitors unless they took on more staff. The additional staff would not be as well versed in the trade as the current team and then standards would fall. And so Claritas remained suppliers to the ever-diminishing numbers of independent retailers.

It is difficult for a small company to set up and maintain a web site and an online store whilst continuing to deal with their existing business and thus, Claritas-Online was formed to deal with this side of matters.

HILKINSON OPTICAL PRODUCTS.

The Hilkinson brand, which is owned by Claritas Limited, was first established in the early 30's in Hertfordshire manufacturing Binoculars and Telescopes, of which the latter have become collectors items having last been produced close to fifty years ago. The emergence of the Japanese optical industry necessitated the transfer of manufacture to Japan in the mid-fifties. Hilkinson Binoculars were produced under license in the same factories for the next fifty years, with the same strict quality controls being maintained as they were in the U.K. With the virtual demise of the Japanese optical industry, it became necessary to move production again. After nearly a year of sourcing trading partners and manufacturers, we have now taken delivery of the first of a new range of binoculars and opera glasses, and very pleased we are with them. Hilkinson have enjoyed an enviable reputation for providing high quality at sensible prices. Claritas also own the Solus brand, which is used for our range of telescopes and budget binoculars and monoculars, and Hilkin which is used for our lower specification binoculars that are made in Korea.
